THE MONTE
We call a typical Alentejo house a “Monte”. Our is located in Santiago do Cacém, Alentejo – Portugal. Monte do Carrascal is surrounded by olive trees, cork oaks, fruit trees and a small vineyard, all varieties that are very characteristic of this region.
Biodiversity is enriched by storks, blue magpies, black birds, sparrows and many swallows in spring. It’s always a naturally relaxing wake up.
Monte underwent recovery works in 2021, in order to become a comfortable space, maintaining the design and rustic characteristics of the village where it is located.
EVERYTHING AT THE DOOR
In Monte is the “supermarket” that comes to our door!
Warm and freh bread, fresh fish, vegetables and other things are sold right at our door by street vendors in the area. Yes, here there are still fishmongers, bakers and other professions that sell products door-to-door.
The saturday morning ritual of choosing fresh fish from the Sines fish market is indescribable, for hours later to be on the grill os our barbecue! These are moments that make us appreciate life and choose to slow down. Simply enjoy!
There is also a small supermarket for the rest of your needs.
BIKING OR WALKING
Take a bike or simply walk, stroll through the village, see the animas, or if you prefer, visit the Fonte Serne dam, which is just 4Km away.
The importante thing will always be to take advantage of this pure air, the absence of cars and the safety for children to run and play freely in nature.
PARADISES TO DISCOVER
If you like the beach, you are also in the right place. 30 minutes from here are the beatuiful beaches os Porto Covo.
The beaches os this reagion are still hidden paradises from the mass tourism. an example of tis is the fantastic Samoqueira Beach.
You can always go to Porto Covo Beach, S. Torpes Beach or even visit the Pessegueiro Island. All of this in the heart os the famous Southwest Alentejo and Vicentina Coast Natural Park. Eat a snack and relax you’re on vacation!
